What is One to World Computing?
One-To-World will make it imperative that each student who attends the Adams Central School district in grades 6-12 have access to a computer to complete work and participate in class. Adams Central students live, work and play in a technology rich environment everyday. Adams Central Public Schools is committed to providing our students with educational opportunities to help them develop as responsible, literate citizens in a technology-enabled global society. Individual access to mobile computing devices provides our students and teachers the means to engage in innovative, collaborative opportunities with access to unlimited information to support learning.
What is BYOD and DOD?
BYOD is Student /Parent Bring Your Own Device.
(The technology is not owned or maintained by the school).
DOD is District Owned Device.
(The technology is not owned or maintained by the school).

Parent Options:
Parents will have to choose one of the option below.
1. Student will be allowed to bring in his/her own devices.
(Must meet the school’s technology specs) (BYOD)
2. Student will be given a district owned device, leased to the student (DOD). The device that Adams Central School District will lease out to students will be a chromebook. The Chromebook is being loaned to each student in Grades 6 – 12. Sixth grade student will be able to take home, but it will be based on the teacher/principal at that school. There is NO cost for a student’s access to a DOD, but it is highly recommended to buy the schools self-insurance. (The student is responsible for any physical damage to the Chromebook.)

AC One to World Options
Option 1 (BYOD)Students may purchase a computer independent of the school district for use during and after school hours.
Students who select this option: (BYOD) • May use the device for personal use after school hours.
• May install personally-owned software on the device. • Assume responsibility for all technical support, repairs and general maintenance of the device. •The Device must meet the Adams Central Public Schools "One to World" Technology device Spec. • Must adhere to the Adams Central Schools District Acceptable Use Policy |
Option 2 (DOD)Students can loan a district-owned chromebook for use during and after school hours.
Students who select this option: (DOD) • Any damages that occur to district-owned equipment due to the student’s negligence may result in financial accountability on the part of the student (Click here to view a sample list of incidents that will be covered by the self-insurance).
• Lost or stolen equipment may result in prorated financial accountability. • Must return the device to the district prior to leaving for summer break for routine maintenance and software updates. • May not install personally-owned software on the device. • Personally-owned chrome apps will be allowed • Must adhere to the Adams Central Schools District Acceptable Use Policy • All repairs Must be done though the Adams Central Schools District Technology Department |
Program Guidelines:
- Every student who attends the Adams Central School District grades 6-12 is required to have access to an electronic device to complete work and participate in the class. Either a BYOD or DOD. (BYOD must meet schools technology specifications).
- There will be an option of a self-insurance fee of $30 per device, Must be a school own device (DOD).
- Students with DOD in Grades 7–12 will be able to bring their chrome book home during non-school hours.
- Students with DOD in 6th grade will be able to take the device home during non-school hours, but it will be determined by the teacher/principal at that school.
- Students who use the DOD will retain the same device 7-9 grades and then it will be replaced at the beginning of 10th grade. He/She will then use that same device until they graduate from Adams Central or leave the district.
- BYOD students can change devices whenever they choose as long as it remains within the school’s technology specifications.
- Students who are using DOD will turn in the device at the end of first semester and at the end of the school year.
- Students with DOD will be re-issued the same device when school starts the second semester and after the summer break.
- Students who are using DOD and are enrolled in summer school will be permitted to retain their device until their summer course is complete.
- Students are required to charge their device at home both for DOD and BYOD
How and When will Students that select district owned device (DOD), receive the device ?
Current Students of Adams Central School District:
The Adams Central School District will hand out DOD (District Owned Devicen the first day of school with the understanding that all paper work must be turned back into the school by August 25, 2017. If you have chosen BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), you must bring your device with you on the first day of school and let the patriot period teacher know that you need to get onto the schools network .

Parents/students will be provided all paperwork for participation in the chromebook program upon registration.

What Are My Options if BYOD or DOD stops working?
Any time a student’s device that is inoperative or a student does not have his/her device with them at school, they will use a "rental" device. By agreeing to be part of the BYOD program, parental permission is granted for the student to check out and rent a temporary replacement device. With DOD and purchasing the self-insurance applies to any Chromebook issued to your child by the Adams Central School District, whether it is the originally issued Chromebook, a loaner, or a replacement. There will not be an additional premium for the use of a chromebook loaner, unless the damage is determined as an EXCLUSION (More info self-Insured)
RENTAL UNIT: Google Chromebook
RENTAL CHARGES: $5 per day, $20 per seven day week. (Billed to parents monthly)
The student/family will be responsible for any damages or loss that may be incurred while using the rental device.
It is the responsibility of the student to make sure any work saved locally on their own computer is backed up regularly.
